East Sussex brewer unveils plans to sell ale on a wider scale

2nd February 2021

Ales and bitters produced by a socially responsible Sussex brewer have been selected by a regional co-operative to be part of its Local Flavours range.

Four products from Bedlam Brewery, currently based in Plumpton Green, have hit the shelves of Southern Co-op stores across Sussex.

This builds on two other new Sussex-based products added to the Local Flavours range in January – products from The Fresh Fish Shop, in Haywards Heath, and TRIBE protein nature bombs produced in Bosham by Lorama Foods.

The independent co-operative currently has around 200 local suppliers as part of its Local Flavours range in 200 stores in 11 different counties across the south of England.

Danny Hoskins, Sales Director at Bedlam Brewery, said: “Being based in the heart of the South Downs, we’re incredibly conscious of working with the local environment and the community to make sure we all benefit from the brewery’s success.”

Bedlam Brewery has built up its reputation for being a socially responsible brewery after it was first started by a group of friends on Albourne Estate winery in 2011.

The company started brewing commercially in 2015 and has since won a number awards whilst also concentrating on being eco-friendly including recycling waste by feeding leftover grain to cattle, the use of solar power and locally sourcing ingredients wherever possible.

The four Bedlam products being stocked by Southern Co-op are Benchmark Sussex Best Bitter, Phoenix Extra American Pale Ale, Turtle Recall Pale Ale and Wilde East Coast Pale Ale.

Matt Elliott, Retail Buying & Services Manager who looks after Local Flavours at Southern Co-op, said: “This is a business based on sustainability – something we strive for and encourage people to consider when doing their shopping.

“We are excited to have Bedlam Brewery on board and hope our customers love them just as much as we do.”

The products will be available at The Co-operative Food stores in Angmering’s The Square, Bosham’s Delling Lane, Burgess Hill’s London Road, Chichester in Lavant Road, Spitalfield Lane and Stockbridge Road, Haywards Heath in Franklynn Road, Hove in Western Road, and Yapton.
