Free Shops Summer Giveaway 2026: Full Terms & Conditions
- Overview
1.1 The Free Shops Summer Giveaway (the “Giveaway”) is open to people resident in the UK.
1.2 The Giveaway will be open from 22 July until 21 August 2026 at 23:59 inclusive (“Promotional Period”) during which period customers may be randomly selected to receive qualifying items in their shop free of charge.
1.3 The prizes for the Giveaway are not transferable, refundable, or exchangeable and no cash alternative will be offered.
- How the Giveaway works:
2.1 There are two ways to participate in the Giveaway:
- a) Automatic in-store entry: customers making eligible purchases in participating Southern Co-op food stores during the promotional period may be randomly selected to receive a free shop at the checkout.
- b) No purchase necessary entry: customers may alternatively enter an online prize draw for the chance to win one of fifty £30 Southern Co-op gift cards by submitting an entry online during the promotional period.
- Automatic in-store entry:
3.1. The Giveaway applies to transactions made in Southern Co-op-owned food stores only (“Participating Stores”). Southern Co-op ‘Welcome’ stores operated by franchisees and home delivery transactions are excluded.
3.2. In-store winners will be selected at random in participating stores by the EPOS system during qualifying transactions and notified either by the serving colleague at a manned checkout or via an on-screen message at a self-service checkout.
3.3. The following items and services are excluded from the Giveaway and are not qualifying items for the purposes of these Terms and Conditions: Alcohol, cigarettes, tobacco, cigars, baby milk, lotteries, mobile phone top-up cards, postage stamps, saving stamps, gift cards, in-store concessions, Paypoint or Paystation, Post Office services and fuel. Any excluded items in the customer’s basket must be paid for by the customer.
3.4. To qualify for the in-store Giveaway, customers must spend a minimum of £1 on qualifying items in participating stores after all promotions, discounts and offers have been applied.
3.5. By making a transaction in a participating store during the promotional period, you are deemed to have accepted these terms and conditions and the specific details of the Giveaway set out in the promotional material or medium.
- No purchase necessary entry:
4.1. No purchase is necessary to participate in the Giveaway. Customers may alternatively enter a separate online prize draw, without making a purchase, by visiting Southern Co-op July Prize Draw | Win a £30 Gift Card and completing the online entry form during the promotional period. One online entry per person per week will be permitted during the promotional period.
4.2. Fifty winners will be selected at random from all valid online entries and each will receive a £30 Southern Co-op gift card. Usual gift card terms and conditions will apply thereafter. Gift Card Terms & Conditions – Southern Co-op
4.3. The closing date is 21 August 2026 at 23:59 and any online entries or in-store transactions after this date will not be eligible for the Giveaway.
4.4. The online entry is open to UK residents, including Southern Co-op colleagues, except employees directly involved in the administration of the Giveaway and their immediate families.
4.5. The fifty winners for the online entry prizes will be selected at random from all valid entries within 7 days of the closing date and contacted by the email provided on their entry. Southern Co-op’s decision is final and binding and no correspondence will be entered into.
4.6. Southern Co-op accepts no responsibility for online entries that are lost, delayed, misdirected or incomplete or cannot be recorded or entered for any technical or other reason.
4.7. Other than delivery of the £30 gift card prizes, no costs associated with any prize are included.
4.8. Southern Co-op will use reasonable efforts to notify the online entry winners using the email address provided by the customer. If a winner does not respond to Southern Co-op within 7 days of being notified, then the winner’s prize will be forfeited and Southern Co-op shall be entitled to select another winner in accordance with the process described above (and that winner will have to respond to notification of their win within 7 days or they will also forfeit their prize). If a winner rejects their prize or the entry is invalid or in breach of these terms and conditions, the winner’s prize will be forfeited and Southern Co-op shall be entitled to select another winner.
4.9. The online entry winners shall allow 28 days for delivery of the £30 gift cards. Southern Co-op accepts no responsibility for any damage, delay or loss of prizes where this is due to circumstances outside of Southern Co-op’s reasonable control.
4.10. At Southern Co-op’s discretion, the surnames and counties of online entry winners will be provided a month after the closing date on receipt of a stamped addressed envelope to: The Southern Co-operative Limited FAO, Retail Campaign Manager, Retail Commercial Department, 1000 Lakeside Western Road Portsmouth PO6 3FE.
4.11 The free entry route provides an equal chance of winning as entry via purchase.
- Community donation
5.1. Southern Co-op will donate £1 to The Retail Trust for every valid free shop prize awarded during the promotional period, up to a maximum total donation of £10,000.
5.2. The final donation amount will be confirmed following the end of the promotional period and published on the Southern Co-op website.
5.3. The donation will be made to The Retail Trust by 11 September 2026.
- 6. Your rights
6.1 Personal data (such as name, email address and postal address) will be collected and processed by the Promoter for the purposes of administering the online entry prize draw and fulfilling prizes. All personal data will be handled in accordance with UK data protection legislation, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. Personal data collected for the administration of the Giveaway will be deleted once the Giveaway has formally concluded and prizes have been fulfilled. 6.2. In-store winners and online entry winners may be invited to take part in promotional activity, such as photographs or short videos for use on the Promoter’s social media channels and marketing materials. Participation in promotional activity is optional, and winners will be asked to provide written consent before any photographs or personal details are used. Winners have the right to withdraw consent for the use of their image or data at any time by contacting the Promoter at [email protected]. 6.3. Southern Co-op accepts no responsibility for any damage, loss, liabilities, injury or disappointment incurred or suffered by you as a result of entering the Giveaway or accepting the prize. Southern Co-op further disclaims liability for any injury or damage to your or any other person’s computer relating to or resulting from participation in or downloading any materials in connection with the Giveaway. Nothing in these terms and conditions shall exclude the liability of Southern Co-op for death, personal injury, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation as a result of its negligence.
6.4. Southern Co-op reserves the right at any time and from time to time to modify or discontinue, temporarily or permanently, the Giveaway with or without prior notice due to reasons outside its control (including, without limitation, in the case of anticipated, suspected or actual fraud). The decision of Southern Co-op in all matters under its control is final and binding and no correspondence will be entered into.
6.5. Southern Co-op shall not be liable for any failure to comply with its obligations where the failure is caused by something outside its reasonable control.
6.6 Southern Co-op reserves the right to withhold, cancel or recover prizes where it reasonably suspects fraudulent activity, misuse of the Giveaway, manipulation of the EPOS system, or breaches of these Terms and Conditions
6.7. By taking part in the Giveaway, participants are deemed to have accepted these Terms and Conditions.
6.8. The Giveaway will be governed by the laws of England and Wales and entrants to the Giveaway submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
