Children’s charity football tournament in Kinson

21st October 2021

Tying together their passion for sport and a desire to fundraise for a special cause, a Kinson couple are holding a charity football tournament in Bournemouth.

Open to youngsters in school Years Four, Five and Six, the matches will be held on Saturday 30 October from 10am to 12am.

Being supported by the pair’s non-profit coaching company PSE Youth, Charlie Chester has also got the support of her colleagues at The Co-operative Food in Kinson Road who are volunteering their time to help referee, coach and run the event.

Running the event with her fiancé Adam Sherwood, Charlie is also well known as an international powerlifter having won gold medals at the world championships and having also been European, Western European, Commonwealth, British, English and South West champion.

All proceeds of the football event will go to Julia’s House children’s hospice with Southern Co-op and The Co-operative Food donating the funding needed for the cost of the pitch hire.

Julia’s House  provides practical and emotional support for families caring for a child with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition across Dorset and Wiltshire.

Charlie, Duty Manager at The Co-operative Food in Kinson Road, said: “We want to make sure the day is as inclusive as possible so we are asking people to enter as individuals rather than teams so we can then mix the players up to make random teams on the day.

“We have carried out the relevant risk and COVID-19 assessments and hope it will be a great way for individuals to get to know each other, have some fun and raise money at the same time.”

Entry costs £5 per player and the tournament will take place at BH Live Active – Pelhams, at the astro pitches in Manor Farm Road, BH10 7LF.

Adam Sherwood, the owner of PSE Youth, said: “We are all looking forward to getting together after a particularly tough year or so. What better way to do that than by playing a sport we all love. We look forward to seeing both new and familiar faces on the day.”
