From Dorset to Hampshire: Spicy flavours spread across the south
A Dorset company, which boasts massive flavours born in a little shed, is now being stocked in local co-operative stores in Hampshire and Dorset.
Now based in Bridport, The Spice Shed first started blending flavours in 2016 and has since developed a huge range available via its online store.
Founder Richard Mabb started the business from his own shed in Askerswell after growing up surrounded by a rich range of herbs and spices largely thanks to his mother’s upbringing in China.
The flavours on offer have expanded over the years and now, one of The Spice Shed’s latest range – Spice Nite – is on the shelves of 21 local convenience stores run by Southern Co-op.
Matt Elliott, Retail Buying & Services Manager at Southern Co-op, said: “Richard’s flavours pack a punch and, being 100% plant-based with an added pinch of salt, they appeal to everyone’s taste buds.
“We have chosen these three to tickle our customers’ taste buds as they will really compliment the other products we currently offer across our Local Flavours range.
“We’re proud to support local producers like The Spice Shed and currently have products from around 200 suppliers in our stores in 11 different counties across the south of England.”
Southern Co-op’s Local Flavours range currently stocks local products from essential eggs and milk to luxury chocolate and top tipples.
The three products from The Spice Shed now available in 21 stores are Spice Night Chilli Chipotle, Spice Nite Jamaican Jerk, and Spice Nite Flamin Fajita.
They will be stocked at The Co-operative Food in Sturminster’s Station Road in Dorset; and 20 Co-operative Food stores in Hampshire including Alderholt’s Ringwood Road, Alresford’s West Street, Alton’s High Street, Bishops Waltham’s High Street, Bosham’s Delling Lane, Clanfield’s White Dirt Lane, Denmead’s Hambledon Road, Emsworth’s High Street, Four Marks’s Winchester Road, Hayling Island’s Elm Grove, Lee on The Solent’s High Street, Lyndhurst’s High Street, Milford on Sea’s High Street, Odiham’s High Street, Overton’s Winchester Street, Romsey’s Abbotswood Common Road, Romsey’s Botley Road, Romsey’s The Hundred, Stockbridge’s High Street, and Wickham’s The Square.
Richard Mabb from The Spice Shed said: “Here at the shed we believe in great flavour and great value. When we first started in a shed blending spices, it was for the kind of foods we like to cook.
“When developing Spice Nite, we wanted to create a new range of generous, no-filler, no-additive, 100% plant-based (except for a pinch of salt), weeknight meal-transformers with blends we love and want to share.
“We tested and tested them on what we brought home to cook after a long day at work, on meat and meat alternatives and the flavours really sang. We look forward to hearing what transformations Southern Co-op’s customers experience and develop themselves!”
