Reducing Waste: Reusable Cup and 5p Paper Cup Charge
Reusable cups are an important component of Starbuck’s overall waste reduction strategy.
You can already buy a £1 cup in our stores and save 25p each time you use a reusable tumbler.
To help reduce paper cup waste further, from Thursday 26 July 2018, across our stores we will be rolling out a 5p paper cup charge to encourage customers to bring in a reusable cup.
The funds raised from the 5p cup charge will continue to support recycling and sustainability efforts with environmental charity, Hubbub, with a focus to reduce plastic pollution across the UK and prompt consumers to rethink how we use plastic.
How we recycle
Behind the scenes in our stores we aim to separate our waste into seven streams:
- Organic waste, leftover food and coffee grounds
- Mixed plastics
- Cardboard
- Paper cups
- Aluminium cream canisters
- Espresso capsules
- General waste
These can be collected and sorted. And in this way over 90% of the waste generated at store level is diverted from landfill.
