David Phillips
Question 1: Why do you think you would be a good director of Southern Co-op?
These are very challenging economic times for members and the Society’s business. My extensive financial and business experience would benefit members and enhance the overall Society. I seek to develop a collaborative approach with the executive team and all stakeholders. My knowledge of technology, IT and being a Chartered Engineer is particularly relevant. I have always sought to encourage a diverse and inclusive team, giving individual responsibility, and maximise training and development opportunities, especially for younger persons.
Question 2: How do you demonstrate Southern Co-op’s values in your own life?
I provide a variety of voluntary work for other organisations and the reward is seeing success in them. My work includes being a director of a not-for-profit organisation ‘IABM’ (the trade association for broadcast and media companies); monitoring its leadership team and its financials, including approving remuneration and bonus objectives of its directors – skills similarly applicable to Southern Co-op. I am treasurer of the local village residents’ group promoting responsible, appropriate, sustainable local development in the community, including personally raising over £20,000 to foster such aims.
Question 3: Why do you want to be a director of Southern Co-op?
- Bring fresh perspectives
- Apply my skills and experience to the overall benefit of the Society and its principles
