Apple and orange crumble
Who doesn’t love a crumble? Easy to make, fruity and sweet, with a crunchy golden topping, it’s a winning winter pud. Make your own crumble topping, or for a quick shortcut find readymade crumble mix in store.

*Freezable (freeze before baking, defrost thoroughly then cook as per recipe)

Ready in: 50 mins
- 140g plain flour
- 60g porridge oats
- 140g chilled butter, cut into small cubes
- 85g soft brown sugar
- Custard, to serve
For the filling
- 5 eating apples (such as Braeburn), cored and thinly sliced
- 2 oranges, one peeled and cut into segments, one juiced
- 50g sultanas
- 100g granulated sugar
Method
- Preheat the oven to 190°C/fan 170°C/gas 5. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and porridge oats, then rub in the cold butter until it resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in the sugar and rub in again to combine.
- To make the filling, put the apple and orange slices, sultanas and sugar in a bowl, along with the orange juice. Stir to combine.
- Spread the fruit mixture over a shallow baking dish, then top with the crumble mixture and bake in the oven for 30-40 mins or until a pale golden colour and bubbling. Serve with warm custard, if you like.
